The Duke Of Kendal

If Connaught Street and Kendal Street are the
main arteries running through Connaught Village,
the Duke of Kendal is the heart.

18 months ago pub landlords Joe and Mo took over
the pub with the aim of rejuvenating it – they have
done so by maintaining the traditional interior but
giving the Duke an exterior ‘facelift’.
The Duke specialises in Thai food and at weekends a
traditional English Sunday dinner. No doubt the food
is a draw but, for many punters, it is the welcome and
conviviality that invites them.

The pub specialises in a weekly musical event that has
garnered a growing local and even international interest.
On a Sunday night people from all over the area, and
indeed the world stop in to catch resident musician June
play a traditional set of English folk ballads.The occasion
is truly “unique” says Joe. “We have people from all
around the world who come to see June and by
word of mouth it is becoming very popular with
not only our regulars but tourists as well.”
